Our Herd

We currently raise a mixed herd of miniature jerseys, mid-sized jerseys, and standard jerseys. Our miniature jerseys are dual registered with AMJA and IMCBR. Our standard jerseys are registered with AJCA.

Miniature Jerseys

Hannah

IMG_1582.jpeg

Our OG girl. Homestead Oaks Hannah is aging beautifully. She came to us after having 3 calves already and has given us two, almost three calves as well. She is broad in the chest and barrel and sits on very short stocky legs. This does make nursing a little more difficult for her calves, but since she is such an amazing and patient mother, they figure it out quickly.

Hannah is A1/A2, heteropolled and calves with ease. She peaks at about 4 gallons per day with once a day milking. Her udder is definitely starting to show some stretch and wear at her age, so we typically give her a longer dry period than some of our other girls.

She can be a bit stubborn, our boss cow for sure. But she is the most loyal and predictable in the herd.

Dam: Jewell's Little General

Sire: DC WSF Natural Beauty Nettie

Height: 43 inches

Phoebe

DT Phoebe is a tiny princess. And she knows it! She has given us two perfect heifer calves and currently expecting another calf in February 2027.

Phoebe is A2/I, dehorned, and calves like a dream. Her grass fed genetics make her a super easy keeper too. She requires a very small amount of  grain and stays in great condition. Phoebe is definitely not our biggest producer, peaking only around 2 gallons per day with once a day milking.

She is quite confident for her tiny 37 inch frame. She doesn't take no for an answer very often which I find very important for her to hold her own with some of our bigger girls.

Dam: Magelina DT

Sire: Lorries Luck Farm DW SaJa Emil

Height: 37 inches

Willow

IMG_2145.jpeg

Dexter Corner's Waffle is as pretty as they come. Yes, we call her Willow instead of Waffle because we don't "do" food names on our farm. She has had one previous calf and due any day with her second.

Willow is A1/A2, heteropolled and has beautiful white paint markings. She is a champion milker. She was in lactation for over 14 months after her last calf without hardly slowing down!

She is probably our most laid back girl. She is quiet and keeps to herself. She and Phoebe are herd mates for sure.

Dam: Dexter Corner's Pancake

Sire: Dexter Corner's Rambler

Height: 39 inches

Chilly

Clear Brook Winter's Chill is a worker. She is the nosiest and most personable girl with the humans too. However, she likes to assert herself with the other cows. She would like to be boss cow, but Hannah usually gives her a run for her money.

Chilly came to us as a three year old who hadn't calved yet. No fault of her own, but her original owner did not breed her. She was bred right before she was sold and calved here for the first time last year. Unfortunately, due to a positioning issue with the calf during delivery, it was stillborn. Chilly handled it like a champ and took right away to milking like it was her job. She peaked around 4 gallons with once a day milking and bred back easily. She A1/A2, dehorned and is due again in August.

Dam: MM Hope ET

Sire: Fraizers Credential (Rio)

Height: 41 inches

Annabelle

IMG_2016.jpeg

Besosa's Annabelle is the cow I never knew I needed! She came as a package deal when we purchased our bull, Lazarus. I wasn't necessarily looking to add another cow, but she has fit so perfectly.

Annabelle is A1/A2, homopolled and absolutely stunning. She calved once before she came to us and just gave us a sweet bull calf a few months ago. She is a protective mother, but not necessarily in it for the long haul. She likes to share him with us to "co-parent".

She has more of an unsure personality and does not like change. But she loves her people well once she trusts them Annabelle has been an amazing milker already giving over 4 gallons with once a day milking.

Dam: Sure Shot Southern Comfort

Sire: Burnett Ranch Trixie

Height: 40 inches

Coraline

Wisteria Hill Coraline is one of our own that we retained last year. With Hannah aging, we knew that we wanted to keep her genetics in the herd and were secretly hoping for heifer. And boy did she deliver!

Coraline is A2/A2, heteropolled, and has the most perfect white paint markings.

She is sooo nosey and is convinced that she is human. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out once she joins the milking rotation.

Dam: Homestead Oaks Hannah

Sire: Valley Girl's Cassanova

Birth Height: 23 inches

Lazarus

IMG_5619.jpeg

Our main man, Oak Creek's Lazarus. This guy is perfect.

Laz is A1/A2, heteropolled and a perfect gentlemen. His confirmation is great and he is a super easy keeper on pasture. He is also very petite himself and carries some small genetics. His dam was only 36 inches tall.

Lazarus has been a huge asset to our breeding program, helping to detect heats in our herd and has been very successful at breeding those that he has covered.

We are excited to see his calves this year.

Standard Jerseys

Alma

IMG_0098.jpeg

Miss Alma Mae is a gentle giant. Her name is also Presto Phoebe. But we already had a Phoebe when she came to us, so we call her Alma. She said she didn't mind!

Girlfriend is tall, long, and dark and gives lots of great milk. She has fantastic long teats, and peaked around 4 gallons a day with once a day milking.

Alma calved once before she came to us and came already bred to angus. She delivered a beautiful beef cross bull calf in April. We are anxious to breed her back this year with heifer sexed semen to carry on her production genetics.

June

Junie B is our sweetheart. She is a little shy, and a little nervous at times, but this girl loves to eat. She will knock anyone and anything out of her way to get to the milk stanchion because it means food.

June came to us with her heifer calf. She weaned well and is working on becoming a 4H show heifer. She has been milking wonderfully and is bred back for a November calf. We are excited to see this calf because Laz, our mini bull, is the sire. Hoping for a strong mid-sized heifer!

Dam: Gifted Ivy

Sire: Gallantry
